This week we have used a selection of orchestral instruments and synths to compose a much more melodic soundscape than normal.

Soundscape #15 by Ithaca Audio

We made use of strings, piano, harp, flute, percussion and a variety of synth sounds to build the track.

Key to the creation of the soundscape was the mixing process, where a lot of the high end of the sound is taken up by the reverbs. This is done by using send effects in Cubase, feeding each of the tracks into an individual reverb bus (in this case making use of Cubase’s own Reverence plug-in) whilst EQing out a lot of the high end on the actual channels. The results in the high end of the sound only being heard as a reflection from the reverb, which creates a great atmospheric effect without over ‘dulling’ the instruments and sucking out the life of the track.

The track is free to download and use under a creative commons license.
